European countries want the US to deploy American fighter jets to Romania as part of security guarantees for Ukraine.

This was reported in The Times.

“Senior European military officials are discussing the deployment of US F-35 fighter jets to Romania, where NATO is building its largest air base in Europe to deter Russia from re-invading,” the article says.

It is known that Trump ruled out deploying US troops on the ground in Ukraine, but said he was ready to provide “air” support within the framework of security guarantees.

NATO currently patrols the Black Sea from Mihail Kogelniceanu Air Base in Romania, which is the most likely location for the American aircraft.

“In addition to the American fighter jets based in Romania, European countries want guarantees regarding the continued use of American satellites for GPS and reconnaissance in Ukraine. They want an obligation from the US to supply Ukraine with Patriot and NASAMS air defense missiles to repel Russian attacks, as well as permission for reconnaissance aircraft to fly over the Black Sea,” the publication says.

The publication notes that within the Coalition of the Willing, Britain has proposed deploying Typhoon fighter jets to western Ukraine and a brigade of 5,000 troops to train the Ukrainian army. France, Canada and Australia may also send troops to western Ukraine.

As a reminder, US President DonaldTrump has admitted the possibility of providing air support to Ukraine as part of a future peace agreement with Russia . At the same time, he confirmed that American troops will not participate in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine.

As reported, France, Great Britain and a number of other European countries plan to send a limited military contingent to Ukraine. This involves the creation of a so-called “deterrence force” that will include several thousand foreign military personnel.

By the way, about 10 countries have already expressed their readiness to send their troops to Ukraine , including the United Kingdom and France. The goal is to support the process of security guarantees after the cessation of hostilities, without going to the front line.
