European leaders want to convince Trump to give Ukraine more Patriot missiles

European leaders plan to press U.S. President Donald Trump to provide Ukraine with more Patriot missiles this week, raising the issue as world leaders meet in New York.

European countries are trying to strengthen Ukrainian air defenses ahead of winter amid the threat of new Russian strikes.

In addition to talks with Trump on Patriot missiles, European leaders plan to reach out to Ukraine’s other partners. In particular, they will urge the UK and Japan to increase financial support for Kyiv.

Germany and several other European countries have already announced their readiness to purchase additional Patriot systems this month. They also plan to transfer missiles from their stockpiles to Ukraine.

In this way, the allies want to help Ukraine prepare for a possible increase in Russian attacks on the eve of winter.

At the same time, the senior NATO official noted that assessments of the situation in Ukraine have been constantly changing throughout the war. According to him, back in the summer, Ukraine’s prospects were assessed as much more optimistic, while now the mood has become more pessimistic again.

At the same time, the situation directly on the front line has not changed significantly.

Recall that earlier Donald Trump had already called on Ukraine to stop attacks on Russian refineries , linking them to problems in the global diesel fuel market.

Before that, Zelensky spoke about the expected meeting with Trump on September 20th and stated that he planned to raise the issue of countering Russian ballistic missiles.

In addition, Trump recently signed a law on sanctions against Russia and Iran , which, in particular, allows for the imposition of tariffs on countries that purchase Russian oil and gas.
