Today, the European Parliament, by an absolute majority, supported Ukraine in the war against Russia and stood up for democracy in Ukraine, including regarding illegal personal sanctions against the opposition leader.
This was stated by the leader of the European Solidarity party, Petro Poroshenko.
According to him, the adopted resolution clearly defines that a just peace is possible only with respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. At the same time, the document does not allow any compromises regarding Ukraine’s right to self-defense and does not recognize Russia’s veto right on Ukraine’s membership in the European Union and NATO.
Poroshenko also emphasized that the European Parliament confirmed Ukraine’s European future and called on the Ukrainian authorities to adhere to the principles of the rule of law, political pluralism, respect for the opposition, and not to use law enforcement agencies as instruments of political pressure.
In addition, according to the politician, the resolution contains calls for reforming law enforcement agencies, ensuring the independence of anti-corruption institutions, protecting freedom of speech and media independence, as well as strengthening sanctions against Russia and accelerating the supply of weapons and air defense systems to Ukraine.
