European Solidarity calls for the title of Hero of Ukraine to be awarded to deceased energy worker Alexei Brekht – Gerashchenko

The European Solidarity faction is calling on the president to award the title of Hero of Ukraine to energy worker Alexei Brekht, who died tragically while responding to the aftermath of Russian strikes on critical infrastructure. This was reported on social media by faction co-chair Iryna Gerashchenko.

“Today we said goodbye to Alexei Brekht. Our European Solidarity team honored the memory of this distinguished energy worker and engineer, who went above and beyond to restore the power grid after the barbaric Russian attacks,” the MP wrote.

“Thousands of people gathered at the funeral in Mykhailivske, including Alexey’s colleagues who are currently saving the Ukrainian capital from the cold. Representatives from embassies were present, and ordinary Kyiv residents came to express their gratitude… For our team, this loss has a personal dimension. Mr. Alexey’s daughter, Masha Brekht, is an active member of the Solidarity Youth movement. In recent months, their family has endured numerous trials and pressures due to Mr. Alexey’s professional stance on the state of the Ukrainian energy sector and his work at Energoatom,” emphasized Iryna Gerashchenko.

“While others stole and looted, he repaired and saved. He died in the line of duty, personally visiting the most severely damaged areas… Our faction is appealing to Zelenskyy with an initiative to award Oleksiy Brekht the title Hero of Ukraine. This is the position of Kyiv residents, the opinion of hundreds of thousands of people who, after the tragic death of Oleksiy, a modest and intelligent man, learned of his outstanding role in restoring the power grid,” the faction co-chair noted.

“Thank you, Mr. Alexey… We hug your family, they are going through a very difficult time,” wrote Irina Gerashchenko.
