Russian military personnel began leaving Belarusian training grounds after the completion of the Zapad-2025 exercises.
This was reported by the spokesman for the State Border Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda.
According to him, the movement of Russian units from the territory of Belarus has already been recorded, but it is not yet possible to speak of a complete withdrawal. Demchenko also clarified that this time the number of the Russian contingent at the exercises was smaller than in previous years, in particular in 2021.
The Zapad-2025 exercises were officially held from September 12 to 16 at several training grounds, including in the Republic of Belarus and Russia. The final phase of the exercises was held at the training ground in Mulino (Nizhny Novgorod region), where, according to Russian media reports, a hypothetical enemy was “destroyed” and troops reached the hypothetical state border. Vladimir Putin personally observed this part of the maneuvers, appearing in military uniform.
The spokesman for the State Border Service of Ukraine also emphasized that during the entire period of the exercises, no active actions were recorded near the Ukrainian border.
As reported, a Lithuanian intelligence officer said that up to 30,000 soldiers will participate in the joint military exercises of Russia and Belarus “West-2025”.
By the way, Poland announced the complete closure of its borders with Belarus on the night of September 12. The reason was the large-scale joint Russian-Belarusian military exercises “West-2025”, which Warsaw views as a potential security threat.
