Explosion at Ovruch railway station: four people killed, 12 injured
An explosion occurred at a train station in the city of Ovruch, Zhytomyr region, killing four people and injuring twelve others. The incident occurred during a passenger ID check when a man pulled out an explosive device on the platform.
This was reported by the police of the Zhytomyr region.
The explosion occurred at around 10:50 a.m. on the platform of the railway station in Ovruch, Korosten District. Investigation and operational teams from the Main Police Department of the region, Police Department No. 1 of the Korosten District Department, explosives technicians, forensic experts, and other emergency services are working at the scene.
It was previously established that during the check of documents from train passengers, a man pulled out an explosive device. As a result, a 23-year-old resident of Kharkiv, who had an explosive, died. Three women aged 29, 58 and 82, residents of the Korosten region, were also fatally wounded. Among the dead was a border guard.
As of 1:30 p.m., twelve people are known to have been injured. They are in a medical facility and receiving the necessary assistance.
Police are conducting priority measures. Preliminary legal qualification of the event:
- p. p. 1, 5 art. 115 (Intentional murder),
- Article 348 (Attack on the life of a law enforcement officer, a member of a public formation for the protection of public order and the state border, or a military serviceman),
- Article 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to the State Border Service of Ukraine, the man who detonated the explosive device was recently detained for attempting to breach the state border in the western section. The victims were immediately provided with primary medical assistance. The person who detonated the explosive device died in the ambulance.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine expresses its deep condolences to the families and friends of the deceased.
Earlier, the media reported that in Ovruch, Zhytomyr region, a man detonated a grenade on a train , killing and injuring several people.
We will remind that a 59-year-old man will be tried in Kyiv who, due to a conflict with a colleague , threw an F-1 grenade at a minibus at a parking lot in the Darnytskyi district. No one was injured during the incident, and the offender faces up to seven years in prison.
