Explosions in Engels and Saratov: a strategic Russian airfield was hit

On the night of Thursday, July 16, the Saratov region of Russia came under a massive drone attack. The cities of Engels and Saratov were under attack, in particular the Engels-2 military airfield and an electrical substation.

This is reported by Russian media, Telegram channels, and OSINT analysts.

Local residents reported numerous explosions and a large number of drones in the sky. According to the Telegram channel Exilenova+, a fire broke out on the airfield after the attack. Previously, the fire occurred in the area of the aircraft parking lot, but there is no official confirmation of this information yet.

OSINT analysts also concluded that the fire originated precisely on the territory of the Engels-2 military airfield.

In addition to the air base, drones attacked an electrical substation in Engels. After a series of explosions, local residents reported power outages.

While repelling the attack, Russian air defenses were working on residential areas. According to monitoring channels, a fire also broke out in the residential area.

The Governor of the Saratov Region, Roman Busargin, only confirmed the threat of a drone attack, but did not officially report on the consequences of the strikes.

As a reminder, on the night of Tuesday, July 14, drones attacked two strategic oil refineries in Russia. Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat in Bashkortostan and the Afipsky Oil Refinery in the Krasnodar Territory were hit.
