On the night of October 29, a number of regions of Russia and the temporarily occupied Crimea were subjected to a massive drone attack. Oil refineries, chemical plants, and energy facilities were hit. Large-scale fires were recorded in several regions.

This is reported by Russian media.

Defeat in Crimea

Local sources report powerful explosions on the peninsula.

A local thermal power plant caught fire in Simferopol.

In the village of Gvardiyske, as a result of several hits, the ATAN oil depot, which had already been attacked earlier on October 17, caught fire. The fire then lasted for several days.

Attacks on Russian oil refineries

Simultaneous explosions occurred at several industrial facilities in central Russia:

In the village of Novospasske (Ulyanovsk region), the NS-Oil refinery, with a capacity of about 600 thousand tons of processing per year, was on fire. Local residents reported a series of explosions and flashes in the sky.

A fire has been reported at the Mariyskoye Oil Refinery in the village of Tabashino (Republic of Mari El), which can process over 1.6 million tons of oil per year. Eyewitnesses posted videos of bright flashes and sparks above the plant.

Russian officials announced the “repelling of the drone attack” and the absence of casualties, but did not comment on the official causes of the explosions.

Another blow was struck at Stavrolen LLC in the city of Budyonnovsk (Stavropol Territory), a large producer of petrochemical products. The enterprise produces polyethylene, polypropylene, benzene and vinyl acetate. After the explosions, thick smoke was visible in the area around the plant.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the alleged shooting down of seven drones in the capital and Moscow region. Due to the threat of attacks, the operation of Domodedovo, Zhukovsky airports, as well as in Samara, Vladikavkaz and Grozny was temporarily restricted. Later, air traffic was partially restored.

Rosaviatsia confirmed short-term disruptions in airport operations, but refused to specify the reasons for the restrictions.

According to monitoring Telegram channels, between 100 and 130 drones were spotted in the skies over Russia that night.
Official sources in the Russian Federation have traditionally not confirmed this information, but fires at oil refineries and industrial facilities indicate a large-scale attack, the consequences of which are still being assessed.

As a reminder, on the night of October 23 , units of the Defense Forces attacked a number of occupiers’ facilities, including a strategic enterprise . In particular, Ukrainian troops struck a facility involved in supporting the occupation army, the Ryazansky oil refinery. Explosions and a large-scale fire were recorded there.

As reported, on the night of October 22 , Saransk in the Republic of Mordovia was subjected to a massive attack by suicide drones, with the Saransk Mechanical Plant among the targets. The first explosions occurred at around 3 a.m.; local eyewitnesses released footage showing the drones hitting the plant and a large mushroom-shaped column of flame rising above it.

By the way, Ukraine’s attacks on Russian oil refineries, as well as the upcoming tax hike, are putting additional pressure on the Russian economy, provoking inflation. Because of this, the Central Bank of Russia may abandon plans to lower the discount rate.
