Explosions in Taganrog and Novocherkassk: Drones hit critical Russian infrastructure
On the night of Wednesday, July 23, Russia’s Rostov region was again hit by drones. According to local residents, a series of explosions were heard in several cities in the region, including Novocherkassk and Taganrog. The attack caused fires and disruptions to critical infrastructure.
This is reported by Russian media.
According to preliminary data, drones hit the railway station and facilities near the Novocherkassk GRES. Fires were recorded in the city, as well as temporary problems with power supply. According to eyewitnesses, after the explosions, a railway crossing was blocked, and a traffic jam formed.
In the suburbs of Rostov-on-Don and Taganrog, residents reported at least five explosions. Flashes were visible in the night sky and the hum of engines, similar to the sound of drones, was heard. According to unofficial information, Ukrainian drones of the “Lyuty” type were used, approaching at low altitude.
The Russian military claims that their air defenses allegedly destroyed 51 drones over seven regions of the country:
28 — in the Bryansk region,
10 — over Kursk,
6 — in Rostovskaya,
4 — above Orlovskaya,
and also one each over Tula, Kaluga, and Lipetsk.
As of the morning of July 23, the Russian authorities had not provided public information regarding possible casualties or the extent of the damage.
As a reminder, on the night of July 20, Moscow was subjected to another large-scale drone attack . One of the drones hit a residential building in Zelenograd, causing a fire and panic among the population. Due to the threat from the air, airports were in an aviation collapse: hundreds of flights were postponed, passengers spent the night on floors and artificial lawns.
As reported, on the night of Tuesday, July 22, a strike was carried out on the territory of the Russian Federation on a facility of strategic importance for the country’s defense-industrial sector. This is the Novokuibyshevsk petrochemical plant, located in the Samara region. This plant, according to Ukrainian sources, produces chemicals that are later used in the manufacture of explosives for the Russian army.
