Explosions rocked central Lviv, killing a police officer and injuring dozens.
On the night of February 22, 2026, two explosions were heard in central Lviv near the Magnus Shopping Center. No air raid siren was issued in the city or region.
The incident was reported by Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi .
According to him, a terrorist attack occurred in the city, resulting in deaths and injuries.
According to the National Police of Ukraine , as of 8:33 a.m., 24 people were reported injured. A 23-year-old police officer was killed.
According to the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office , at around 12:30 AM, the 102 emergency line received a report of a break-in at a store at 20 Danylyshyn Street. When patrol police arrived, an explosion was heard. When a second police unit arrived, another explosion occurred.
The explosion killed a 23-year-old law enforcement officer. A patrol car and a civilian vehicle were also damaged. The number of injured is being determined.
It has been preliminarily established that improvised explosive devices were detonated.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—an act of terrorism resulting in grave consequences. The investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv Oblast. Law enforcement officials are establishing all the circumstances and those involved in the crime.
