Exposing two deputy regional heads of the SBU: officials were informed of suspicion of bribery

Two top officials of the Security Service of Ukraine were reported on suspicion of receiving illegal benefits in particularly large amounts.

This was announced by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.

Thus, the deputy head of the SBU Main Directorate in Kyiv and Kyiv region, the deputy head of the USBU in Rivne region, as well as a civilian intermediary were suspected of bribery. At the same time, the latter was additionally charged with complicity in receiving illegal benefits.

As it turned out, SBU officers, having organized a scheme, put pressure on businesses and demanded benefits for “solving problematic issues.”

In particular, a capital city official used criminal proceedings as a source of illicit enrichment, and for mediation he involved a civilian who communicated with businesses and transferred cash.

“It has been established that during meetings in the Rivne region, entrepreneurs were offered a sum of 600 thousand US dollars for the so-called “tariff for quiet work”. In return, they promised to close the criminal proceedings, change the qualification of the case, and not interfere in business activities in the future,” Kravchenko said.

According to him, the funds were received in two stages – the first $50,000 was transferred as confirmation of the seriousness of their intentions, and 10 days later the businessmen gave another $250,000.

Separately, the deputy head of the USBU in the Rivne region was exposed. Through the same intermediary, he received $22,000 from an entrepreneur who was supposed to ensure unhindered amber mining.

As the Prosecutor General emphasized, law enforcement officers established the facts of receiving more than 320 thousand dollars.

“The “tariff” for impunity in this story did not work. All three participants were detained, and the money was seized. The participants face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property,” Kravchenko added.

As it became known the day before, the deputy head of the regional department of the SBU was detained in the Rivne region while receiving a large bribe.
