F-16 crash during combat mission: SBI investigates the circumstances of the incident

According to preliminary data, on July 29, at about 6:45 p.m. in the Kremenchuk district of the Poltava region, an F-16 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force crashed while performing a combat mission. The pilot managed to eject, and his life is currently out of danger.

The State Bureau of Investigation reported that immediately after the accident, an investigative and operational group of the Bureau’s Territorial Department in Poltava left for the scene. Law enforcement officers worked at the scene all night and are continuing their investigative actions.

Following the fact of the disaster, information was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Part 2 of Article 416 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of flight rules or preparation for them, as well as the rules for operating aircraft, which caused the disaster.

Investigators are establishing all the causes and circumstances of the aviation accident.

This is the fourth loss of an F-16 fighter jet since the start of the transfer of these aircraft to Ukraine in the summer of 2024. The previous accident occurred on May 16, 2025, while repelling a Russian air attack . Then the pilot also successfully ejected and managed to divert the aircraft away from residential areas.
