The Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has revealed the goals of Russia, which spread a fake about an attack on the residence of President Vladimir Putin. According to analysts, the Kremlin tried to delay negotiations and quarrel the United States with Ukraine.
This was announced by the head of the Central Data Protection Agency, Andriy Kovalenko.
According to the official, the fake story about the attack on Putin’s residence was organized in a primitive manner.
“Apart from high-level statements, two days later they placed some drone in the snow, no other evidence was provided. This may indicate several goals of the Russians,” Kovalenko noted.
Yes, the first goal of such fakes is to create a basis for stalling negotiations to end the war and changing their own positions on US President Donald Trump’s peace plan.
Putin’s main goal, according to Kovalenko, is to drag out the war until May, avoid new American sanctions, and abandon some of the points of Trump’s plan that require action from Moscow.
The second goal was to try to drive a wedge between Trump and the Ukrainian authorities. Putin’s words about the attack on the residence, spoken personally to Trump, were supposed to shift the responsibility for prolonging the war onto Ukraine and irritate the American president. However, this did not happen.
“Putin is trying to avoid a situation where the US, Europe, and Ukraine work together and constantly coordinate positions. He wants to decide the fate of Europe and Ukraine without their participation, directly from the US. But this is not possible and will not be possible,” the head of the Central Policy Center emphasized.
The day before, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine announced that the Kremlin was preparing a large-scale provocation with significant human casualties . The aim of such actions could be to disrupt peace talks mediated by the US and further escalate the war.
Recall that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Ukrainian drones allegedly attacked the residence of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in the Novgorod region on the night of December 29 .
