Fashion designer Giorgio Armani dies
Legendary Italian designer and businessman Giorgio Armani has died in Milan at the age of 92. His company reported that the designer passed away after a long illness, remaining active in his work until his last days.
Armani has become a symbol of Italian elegance, reimagining men’s and women’s suits for a modern audience. He is known for making unlined jackets fashionable and creating a new trend of understated yet luxurious classics.
The Armani brand he founded in 1975 grew into an empire spanning fashion, perfume, accessories, sports, music and a chain of luxury hotels. The company’s annual turnover exceeded £2 billion.
Armani remained the sole owner of the company and personally managed its development. His style became a standard for Hollywood – it was he who dressed actors for the Oscars, and his suits were worn by leading movie and sports stars.
