Chinese humanoid robot Lightning has set a new world record for the 100-meter dash, running in 9.32 seconds, faster than Usain Bolt’s world record of 9.58 seconds.

This is reported by Deutsche Welle .

The record-breaking run took place on August 22 during a test competition ahead of the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing. Lightning, developed by Honor, reached a top speed of 14.5 m/s, or 52.2 km/h.

Bolt’s world record for the 100 meters is 9.58 seconds. The Jamaican athlete set it in 2009, and the result remains unsurpassed among humans.

Lightning is 169 cm tall. Before the competition, engineers increased the length of his legs from 95 cm to 1.05 m, which was supposed to improve the robot’s speed characteristics.

This is not Lightning’s first sporting achievement in 2026. In April, the robot won the Beijing Half Marathon among humans, covering the 21 km distance in 50 minutes and 26 seconds.

Earlier, another Chinese humanoid robot, Superman, from Unitree Robotics, reached a top speed of 12.66 m/s during laboratory tests. This figure also exceeded Bolt’s top speed of 12.42 m/s.

However, after accelerating, Superman was unable to stop: the robot crashed into a wall and damaged a metal electrical shield.
