Fatal road accident in Vinnytsia: driver runs over a person while fleeing from a patrol

On the night of March 6, during the curfew in Vinnytsia, patrol officers noticed a Toyota Land Cruiser and signaled the driver to stop. However, the 25-year-old driver of the SUV ignored the officers’ request and began to flee.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Vinnytsia region.

On Magistratska Street, he hit a street sweeper driven by a 55-year-old man. The victim died at the scene from his injuries.

The driver of the Toyota Land Cruiser was examined – he was driving under the influence of alcohol. The offender was detained in a procedural manner.

A 25-year-old passenger was also in the car.

The procedural management of the pre-trial investigation is carried out by the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigative department has opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 286-1 (Violation of road traffic safety rules or transport operation by persons driving vehicles while intoxicated) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Such an offense is punishable by up to ten years in prison with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of five to ten years.

As part of the pre-trial investigation, investigative actions are being carried out to establish all the circumstances of the car accident.
