Favorable conditions after Starlink blocking: Ukrainian Armed Forces conduct counterattacks near Hulyaipol

The Ukrainian military, taking advantage of favorable conditions, after blocking Starlink terminals and the Telegram messenger for Russians, began to conduct counterattacks at the front.

This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

In particular, the activity of the Defense Forces of Ukraine is observed near the administrative border of two regions – Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk.

According to geolocation footage released the day before, the occupiers are directing strikes east of the Gaichur River — northwest of Hulyaipol.

Analysts suggest this could indicate that Ukrainian fighters held positions there until February 12 and were using localized counterattacks to connect them. Instead, the Russian occupiers likely bypassed these positions as they attempted to infiltrate deeper to exaggerate their gains.

However, according to interlocutors in Ukrainian military circles and Russian military bloggers, the Defense Forces’ counterattacks are currently limited in scale and scope.

“Ukrainian tactical counterattacks in the area are likely an opportunistic response to favorable battlefield conditions. A senior NATO official told the BBC Russian Service on February 11 that at least some of Ukraine’s battlefield successes in the eastern Zaporizhia region were due to SpaceX’s efforts to prevent Russian forces from using Starlink terminals,” the ISW report said.

As a reminder, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue counterattacks in the Southern Operational Zone , in particular in the Hulyaipil direction. The Ukrainian military has advanced in several areas of the front and forced Russian units to retreat from their positions.

Earlier, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said that the Starlinks included in the “white list” are working, and the Russian terminals have already been blocked.

By the way, a decrease in the number of assault operations by Russian troops was recorded at the front after the blocking of unregistered Starlink satellite internet terminals.
