The head of the Ukrainian delegation to the US and the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, had closed meetings with the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Kesh Patel, and his deputy, Dan Bongino, during the peace talks.

This is reported by The Washington Post, citing four informed sources.

According to the newspaper, Umerov has flown to Miami three times in recent weeks, where he met with US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to discuss proposals to end the war. At the same time, he held private talks with FBI leadership.

These contacts have raised concerns among Western officials, as the details and purpose of the meetings remain unknown. Some interlocutors suggest that Ukrainian officials may have sought support or protection from possible accusations, while others do not rule out using these contacts to pressure President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to agree to a peace deal proposed by the United States.

Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States, Olga Stefanishyna, confirmed the meetings and stated that Umerov raised exclusively national security issues that are not subject to public discussion.

An FBI representative said the parties discussed common interests in law enforcement and security. According to him, the topic of corruption in Ukraine was mentioned at one of the meetings, but it was not a key one.

The White House said that American officials are in regular contact with representatives of various countries on security issues. They emphasized that Donald Trump’s team is conducting a dialogue with both Ukraine and Russia to help end the war.

The Office of the President of Ukraine refused to comment on the details of the meetings, but at the same time called attempts to link them exclusively to the topic of corruption groundless.

It was previously reported that Russia refused to accept the 28-point peace plan proposed by the United States , which provided for conditions for freezing the front line, control over the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, and security guarantees for Ukraine.

Let us remind you that the negotiation process to end the Russian-Ukrainian war is entering a new phase: according to US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker, Kyiv and Moscow are supposedly closer to a possible peaceful solution than ever before.
