Russia has begun building fortified shelters for military aircraft at airfields near the Ukrainian border. The protective structures are intended to protect aircraft from Ukrainian drones and missiles — in response to successful attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces that destroyed dozens of enemy bombers.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom.

According to British intelligence, Russia has stepped up construction of defensive engineering structures at key military airfields near the border with Ukraine. These include the Millerovo , Kursk-Vostok , and Gvardiyskoe bases in occupied Crimea.

It is noted that these facilities are included in a special protection program developed by the Kremlin, which is aimed at preserving the combat capability of strategic aviation. Satellite images show that the shelters have domed roofs, thick blast-proof doors, and some of the structures are additionally covered with earth.

The purpose of such actions is to minimize losses from pinpoint strikes by Ukrainian drones and missiles, which are increasingly damaging Russian infrastructure deep in the rear.

It is worth noting that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has destroyed or damaged more than 50 enemy strategic and frontline aircraft. Operation “Website” had a particularly powerful effect, as a result of which dozens of pieces of equipment were disabled on Russian territory.

Analysts note that such large-scale defense measures indicate the vulnerability of Russian aviation even at remote bases and a change in the strategic balance in the air.

Recall that fresh satellite images have revealed the large-scale construction of five secret military facilities related to Russia’s nuclear forces . Analysts warn: Moscow is building up nuclear infrastructure amid escalation in Europe. The facilities have multi-level security, special bunkers and logistics for transporting warheads.

It was previously reported that Russia is building a new large explosives production plant in Siberia to supply its troops.
