Fecal Frontline: Engels Sinks Into a Sewage Apocalypse After Russian Sewer Collapse

A major sewage system failure has flooded parts of the city of Engels, Saratov Oblast, Russia. The accident has left more than 200,000 people without water, and the city has declared a state of emergency.

This is reported by Russian media.

According to journalists, the accident occurred on April 29 on Mendeleeva Street, where the main gravity collector failed. Initially, municipal services began repair work, but the situation was complicated by heavy rainfall.

As a result of the accident, sewage began to flood the yards and first floors of apartment buildings. Due to the worsening situation, local authorities introduced a municipal-level state of emergency.

Journalists report that, due to the accident, more than 200,000 residents of the city were left without water during the May holidays. Rospotrebnadzor recommended that residents use only boiled or bottled water.

According to media reports, local authorities were purchasing specialized equipment in Yaroslavl to address the accident’s consequences. The city also warned of long water outages due to repair work.

Municipal services have appealed to residents not to throw garbage into sinks and toilets, as due to the lack of proper water pressure, waste accumulates in the pipes.

Journalists report that significant accumulations of sewage have formed in the city, and residents will have to remain without a water supply for at least a day.

As is known, Engels is a base for Russian strategic aviation. It is from there that Russian bombers regularly take off and take part in attacks on the territory of Ukraine.
