Fictitiously registered men for service and took their salaries: high-ranking official of the Armed Forces of Ukraine detained

A mobilization evasion scheme was exposed at the Main Military Clinical Hospital of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

The Security Service, in cooperation with the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, exposed a high-ranking official of the center for organizing the protection and defense of the facilities of this institution.

As the investigation established, the man registered acquaintances in his unit, who then did not show up for duty and did not perform their tasks.

“Among his clients were citizens of draft age who evaded mobilization. After being enrolled in the defense department, these individuals were fictitiously registered for military service,” the post says.

It is noted that since May 2022, the official has “earned” UAH 2.6 million in this way.

During the searches, money and documentation with evidence of the transaction were found on the detainee.

Investigators of the Security Service informed the defendant of suspicion under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (embezzlement of property through abuse of official position, committed on a particularly large scale).

He is currently being held in custody as a preventive measure. The perpetrator faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

In addition to him, two of his “clients” have been suspected. Their actions have been classified as evasion of military service by self-mutilation or other means, committed under martial law. For this, they face up to 10 years in prison.

As a reminder, the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police blocked eight more schemes for evading mobilization and illegally crossing the state border in various regions of Ukraine.

As reported, within the sixth phase of Operation Guardian, law enforcement officers uncovered new facts of evasion from military service in Ukraine. Based on the results of investigative actions , suspicions were declared against 110 servicemen and civilians.
