Fight for the nest: the stork Odarka returned and ousted her rivals

In the village of Lelyaky on the territory of the Pyryatynsky National Nature Park, a fight broke out between storks over a nest after the return of last year’s female Odarka.

This became known from an online broadcast conducted to observe the nest.

At around 12:37, Odarka returned to the nest, which was empty at that time, took over and began to behave like a hostess. A minute later, other residents arrived at the nest – storks Lel and Kvitka.

A conflict immediately arose between the birds. Odarka attacked Kvitka, but the male Lel intervened and pushed her out of the nest. The fights lasted almost an hour and were repeated many times.

Scientists note that such situations are typical when the previous owners return to the nest, and the place has already been taken by other birds.

Currently, Lel and Odarka remain in the nest. From time to time, the birds try to bring Kvitka back.

Researchers add that the development of events remains unpredictable, as the stork Hrytsyk has not yet returned to the nest.
