Filatov appealed to the leadership of “Slug” due to the refusal of deputies to support the new date of the founding of Dnipro

Dnipro City Mayor Borys Filatov appealed to the regional and central leadership of the Servant of the People party due to the behavior of city council deputies who did not support the decision to change the official date of the city’s foundation.

The official announced this on social media.

It is known that on August 19, during the 84th session of the Dnipro City Council, deputies voted to consider 1526 as the new official date of the founding of Dnipro. Corresponding changes were made to the Charter of the territorial community.

The decision was made after a group of historians, archaeologists, and scholars studied historical, archival, and cartographic materials. Thus, the city’s official history now begins in 1526, rather than the reign of Catherine II.

Filatov called the decision an important event for Dnipro.

“Of course, for Dnipro (and for me too) this is a truly significant event. Because our ancestors are looking at us. Those who were murdered by executioners and those who gave their lives for Ukraine. The next, yet unborn generations of Ukrainians will see this as well,” the mayor wrote.

At the same time, Filatov reacted sharply to the behavior of the opposition factions during the vote. According to him, representatives of the “Public Power” party did not come to the session hall, while deputies from the “Servant of the People”, with the exception of one, did not support the decision.

“And because of that, the so-called “opposition” in the city council now looked even more disgusting and pathetic. From the openly pro-Russian party “Public Power”, which demands “Dnepropetrovsk language”, to “Servants of the People”. But if the former at least had enough brains to simply not come to the session hall, then “Servants of the People” TUPO refused to vote for this issue. Except for one deputy, the entire composition,” the mayor noted.

The mayor separately mentioned the deputies who publicly speak about helping wounded soldiers. According to Filatov, among those who did not support the decision is even a Hero of Ukraine.

“Including those deputies who love to talk on camera about helping our wounded and even have the high title of Hero of Ukraine. Sorry, but this is a terrible shame,” Filatov said.

The mayor also questioned the position of the deputies who did not support changing the date of the city’s foundation, given the state policy of overcoming the imperial legacy.

“Tell me, how alternative gifted do we have to be, so that at a time when the President is taking care of the Ukrainian National Pantheon, the return to Ukrainian soil of the ashes of our heroes of different times, local deputies from the ruling party simply refuse to be involved in the deimperialization of their native City?” he wrote.

Filatov added that he usually does not comment on such situations on social media, but this time he could not stay away.

“I don’t want to comment on anything on social media at all. But when I see cheap, pathetic, and ridiculous antics of supposedly respectable people, I lose patience,” the mayor admitted.

He emphasized that deputies who had objections to the decision could voice them during the session or vote against it, rather than avoiding the vote.

“If any of these laughingstocks had questions, they should have asked them publicly. Or had the courage to vote “against.” But not to sneak around the session like rats or cockroaches,” the mayor emphasized.

Filatov said that he expects a public assessment of the situation from the regional and central leadership of the Servant of the People.

“So now I am eagerly awaiting the public reaction of the regional and republican leadership of the Servant of the People party. Ladies and gentlemen, how do you assess the behavior of your colleagues in the city council, who have historically covered themselves with shame?” Filatov asked.

At the end, the mayor called on the residents of Dnipro to independently evaluate the decisions of the City Council and inquire about the position of local deputies.

“Friends, dear residents of the glorious Dnieper. You can be both “for” and “against” the decision to count the history of the City from 1526. But in any case, ask the local “Servants of the People”: why did they behave like this?” — concluded Filatov.
