Financial disaster in Russia: Rosneft loses profits and profitability
Rosneft is in serious financial trouble – its profit fell by 70% in the first nine months of 2025. The company received only $3.51 billion instead of almost $12 billion last year.
This was reported by the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.
Revenues fell by almost 18%, and production and refining also faltered: gas production was down 13%, and oil refining was down almost 8%. The reasons were a sharp increase in logistics, safety, and repair costs, as well as refinery accidents that knocked out about 20% of capacity.
An additional blow was dealt by the high interest rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation: debt servicing has become more expensive by several billion dollars. The strengthening of the ruble has reduced foreign exchange earnings, on which more than 70% of the company’s revenue depends. Without access to Western technologies, Rosneft is stopping or reducing production in difficult fields.
Analysts say that these are no longer temporary fluctuations, but a systemic failure of the Russian oil and gas sector. Due to the constant discount on oil, the company is losing competitiveness. In the medium term, Rosneft’s problems may collapse the financial stability of related industries – logistics, service and mechanical engineering.
As previously reported, the Central Bank of Russia has for the first time begun direct sales of gold from its reserves on the domestic market , opening access to the metal for banks, state-owned companies, and investment structures.
Recall that world oil prices fell to their lowest levels in a month the day before.
