On the morning of July 4, the Finnish Defense Forces restricted air and sea traffic in the eastern Gulf of Finland near Kotka for several hours following the Ukrainian drone attack on St. Petersburg. All restrictions were subsequently lifted.

Yle reports this.

The airspace over the eastern Gulf of Finland was closed shortly after 5:00 AM near the city of Kotka, located in southeastern Finland opposite Russia’s Leningrad Oblast. A few hours later, similar restrictions were imposed for maritime traffic.

As the publication notes, the measures were preventative in nature—no drones were detected in Finnish airspace.

Throughout the morning, Hornet fighter jets were heard flying over Kotka. A Yle correspondent reported that she counted about ten overflights in just half an hour, although the planes were invisible due to cloud cover.

At around 9:18 a.m., the Finnish military lifted both air and sea restrictions after the potential threat had passed.

Meanwhile, Flightradar reported flight delays in St. Petersburg. According to the publication, this could be due to a Ukrainian drone attack on oil infrastructure near the city.
