Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo announced that his country will take on the coordination of the construction of 10,000 bomb shelters throughout Ukraine.
He stated this on July 10 during the International Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine.
It is noted that Finland has become the lead country in the Civil Protection Coalition, the goal of which is to ensure the construction of protective infrastructure in Ukraine.
The conference also presented an updated cooperation program between Finland and Ukraine until 2028.
“This is not just about rebuilding what was destroyed, but about restarting – creating new opportunities for the country and its citizens,” he said.
The President of Finland also said that several tools have already been implemented to involve Finnish enterprises in the post-war reconstruction. As part of this process, new quality standards are being introduced and Ukraine’s European integration is being supported.
“We are already seeing the first examples of investments from Finnish companies, and this interest is only growing,” Orpo concluded.
It was previously reported that Lithuania and Finland plan to launch their own production of anti-personnel mines as early as 2025. The main goal is to strengthen national security against the threat from Russia, as well as provide military support to Ukraine.
