Finland to provide Ukraine with new military assistance package

Finland will provide Ukraine with the 35th package of defense assistance worth about 1 million euros. The decision to provide it was made by President Alexander Stubb on October 9 at the proposal of the government.

This was reported by the Finnish Ministry of Defense .

The new package will include defense equipment from the Finnish Armed Forces’ reserves . The department noted that the decision was accelerated in response to an urgent request from Ukraine.

Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkinen stressed that the country will continue to support Ukraine.

“Finland has accelerated the adoption of this decision to meet Ukraine’s urgent request . We will not remain indifferent to the plight of Ukrainians. Instead, we will support Ukraine and continue to provide material assistance,” he said.

At the same time, Finland is already preparing the next military assistance package , which will be much larger.

The total value of defense assets that Helsinki has transferred to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war has reached 3.6 billion euros.

The Finnish Ministry of Defense does not disclose what kind of property is included in the new package, nor does it provide a method and schedule for its delivery. This is explained by operational security requirements . When making the decision, both the needs of Ukraine and the capabilities of the Finnish Armed Forces were taken into account.

It was previously reported that Finland is preparing to provide Ukraine with a loan of 50 million euros through the International Development Association (IDA), which is part of the World Bank Group . The funds will be used to rebuild the country and support its economy.
