Finland will expand police powers to intercept drones: what will change

The Finnish government has proposed expanding police powers to intercept drones, with a bill introduced in parliament on September 15.
This was reported by Yle with reference to the Finnish Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The agency noted that unmanned technologies are playing an increasingly important role in security. At the same time, they can also be used for criminal purposes, including damaging critical infrastructure, obstructing government operations, or interfering with private life.
Finnish law currently allows police to intercept drones. The proposed changes would extend this power to all types of drones, whether they are flying in the air, on land, on the surface of the water, or underwater.
They plan to allow the use of technical means, force, and firearms for interception.
In addition, the bill expands the capabilities of the Finnish Armed Forces to assist the police during such operations.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the new rules should come into effect as soon as possible.
It was previously reported that Finland has completed the construction of a 200-kilometer protective fence on the border with Russia. At the same time, the country does not rule out the possibility of expanding the fence in the future.
