Finland will join NATO’s initiative to purchase American weapons for Ukraine.

Finland has announced its intention to join NATO’s PURL initiative, which envisages the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine. Helsinki will also announce a new military aid package soon.

Finnish Defence Minister Antti Häkkanen announced this ahead of a meeting of NATO defence ministers in Brussels.

“Finland will join PURL. It’s crucial that Ukraine receive American weapons,” he emphasized.

According to Häkkanen, the Finnish government will release details of a new military aid package for the Ukrainian Armed Forces this week.

PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) is a joint US-NATO program aimed at accelerating arms deliveries to Ukraine. As part of the initiative, Kyiv is developing a list of priority weapons needs for transfer to its allies.

Partners finance the purchase of American weapons, the funds are deposited into a special NATO account, after which the United States makes direct deliveries in accordance with Ukraine’s requests.

As a reminder, NATO is preparing a new support package for Ukraine. This week, new commitments from allies may be announced under the PURL program, an international initiative for centralized arms supplies to Kyiv.

It was previously reported that partners contributed $1.5 billion to NATO’s PURL initiative , which allows Ukraine to receive weapons from the United States.

Incidentally, in September, the Trump administration approved the first two NATO-funded military aid packages for Ukraine . These are the PURL (Purpose of Relief and Response) mechanisms, which allow for the rapid delivery of weapons from US stockpiles using funding from allies.
