Floods in Nepal kill over 150 people: 53 Ukrainians among missing

In Nepal, 53 Ukrainian citizens are missing after a massive flood on the border with Tibet. Among them is a group of 46 Ukrainian tourists, with whom contact was lost on the morning of August 26. There is currently no confirmed information about the deaths or injuries of Ukrainians.

This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, citing information from the Nepal Tourist Police.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs received an appeal regarding the disappearance this morning of contact with a group of tourists – 46 citizens of Ukraine in the disaster zone. In total, according to the Nepal Tourist Police, as of now, 53 citizens of Ukraine are considered missing as a result of the disaster,” the department said.

Ukrainian diplomats have already joined the search. The embassies of Ukraine in India and China are in contact with local competent authorities and are providing them with data on the missing citizens to establish their whereabouts. The Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Nepal has also been involved in the work.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the hotline has received eight calls from relatives of people with whom contact has been lost. Diplomats are also coordinating search and rescue efforts and providing necessary information to the families of the missing.

Meanwhile, a natural disaster on the Nepal-Tibet border has caused widespread destruction. Floodwaters and mudslides have washed away homes, roads and bridges, and rescue efforts are being hampered by damaged infrastructure. According to the latest reports, at least 157 people have died in the floods, with hundreds more missing.
