Flu and SARS season has begun in Ukraine: what is known

A new epidemic season of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections began in Ukraine on September 28. Doctors will monitor the incidence rate until the end of May 2027.

This is reported by the Center for Public Health.

In the coming months, specialists will monitor how many people are seeing doctors with symptoms of respiratory infections and how the situation is changing in different regions. Separately, doctors will check which viruses are currently spreading among Ukrainians.

So far, no sharp increase in the number of patients has been recorded. In August, the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections remained at the usual summer level. During the month, doctors recorded 218 cases of flu-like illnesses and 201 cases of severe acute respiratory infection.

At the same time, the last epidemic season showed a much larger scale of the disease. From the end of September 2025 to mid-May 2026, more than 4.2 million Ukrainians fell ill with acute respiratory viral infections. Almost 2.4 million of them were children.

COVID-19 was detected in more than 22 thousand people during this period. More than 199 thousand patients were hospitalized due to acute respiratory viral infections, including about 67.5 thousand children.

At the same time, the overall incidence rate last season was 7.1% lower than the year before.

The new epidemic season will last until May 23, 2027. During this period, doctors will monitor the dynamics of the incidence in order to respond in a timely manner to a possible increase in the number of patients.
