Following the attack on Kyiv, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on its partners to urgently strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses.
Following yet another massive Russian attack on Kyiv, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha called on international partners to immediately strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses, impose sanctions on Russia, and increase support for the Ukrainian state.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote about this on the social network X.
According to Sibiga, the international community must respond to Russian terrorism not only with statements, but also with concrete actions.
“Decisions on air defense systems and missiles for Ukraine are needed immediately, not later. Decisions on increasing sanctions pressure on Russia are needed immediately. Decisions on increasing support for Ukraine, including energy assistance, are needed immediately,” the minister emphasized.
He recalled that at least ten people were killed in the overnight strike on Kyiv, but the death toll could rise as rescuers continue to clear the rubble. As of 8:50 AM, 13 people were reported dead.
Sybiha noted that Russia deliberately attacked residential buildings and civilian infrastructure using various types of missiles and attack drones. He called these strikes grave war crimes and stated that Ukraine is informing its international partners and organizations about them to ensure those responsible are held accountable.
The minister also stated that during his working visit to Japan, he will raise the issue of the Russian attack on Kyiv and will call on partners to strengthen their support for Ukraine.
Sybiha also criticized attempts to justify Russian attacks as a supposed response to Ukrainian strikes on military targets in the Russian Federation. He emphasized that Russia is an aggressor state, while Ukraine is exercising its right to self-defense, as guaranteed by Article 51 of the UN Charter.
“Don’t equate the aggressor with the country being defended from aggression. Don’t justify atrocities that cannot be justified,” the head of Ukrainian diplomacy stated.
In conclusion, Sybiga emphasized that Russia’s war against Ukraine concerns not only the Ukrainian state, but also the protection of the fundamental principles of international law, and therefore the world must take a clear and principled position.
As a reminder, on the night of Thursday, July 2, Russia launched a massive air strike on Kyiv. The attack killed 10 people and wounded 56 others. Two children were among the injured.
