Football, Champions League: broadcast previews and match predictions for the Round of 16

The first matches of the Champions League Round of 16 will take place today. This round will be played over two matchdays. Here’s a preview of the football matches on Day 1.

Galatasaray – Liverpool

The match will be held at Rams Park Arena in Istanbul. Kickoff is at 7:45 PM Kyiv time.

Liverpool skipped the preliminary round because they received a direct ticket to the 1/8 finals, and Galatasaray beat Italian Juventus in the 1/16 finals – 5:2 and 2:3.

Both matches were spectacular. After losing the first leg 5-2 away, Juventus won the return leg 3-0 in regulation time. However, Galatasaray, with a man advantage, scored two goals in extra time, which sent them through to the round of 16.

Despite the fact that the match will take place in Turkey, preference is given to Liverpool.

Atlético – Tottenham

The match will take place at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium. Kickoff will be at 10:00 PM Kyiv time.

Like Liverpool, Tottenham skipped the preliminary round as they entered the last 16 directly.

Atletico, in turn, overcame the resistance of Belgian Brugge – 3:3 and 4:1.

According to experts, Atletico has a higher chance of winning thanks to the home match.

Atalanta – Bayern

The clear favourite here is Bayern Munich, even though the Germans are playing away.

In the previous round, Atalanta defeated Borussia Dortmund 0-2 and 4-1. But Bayern leads Borussia by 11 points in their league, comfortably holding first place (Dortmund is second).

The match will take place at 10:00 PM Kyiv time at the New Balance Arena in Bergamo, Italy.

Newcastle – Barcelona

The odds are roughly even here. Bookmakers estimate the Catalans have a slight advantage. Both teams are expected to score.

Barcelona has the upper hand in head-to-head matches. Of the four matches these teams have played in the Champions League, the English team has won only one—back in 1997, when they crushed Dynamo Kyiv.

This match will kick off at 22:00 Kyiv time at St James’ Park stadium.
