On Thursday, July 24, citizens in many cities of Ukraine took to rallies against the bill No. 12414, which effectively abolishes the independence of anti-corruption bodies.
In the capital, people, like on July 22 and 23, took to the square near the Ivan Franko Theater. The action was scheduled for 8:00 p.m., but activists began gathering earlier.
Also in Uzhhorod, many people took to the streets to protest.
Meanwhile, in Lviv, a protest is taking place near the monument to Taras Shevchenko. Participants chant: “No to the usurpation of NABU!”
At 8 p.m., residents of Ivano-Frankivsk gathered in the square near the city hall. The rally participants called on the authorities to repeal the law and preserve the independence of the country’s key anti-corruption institutions.
The main slogans of the Zaporizhzhia rally were: “Hands off NABU”, “Abolish”, “NO to dictatorship”, “President, hear the people!”. In total, the rally was attended by more than several hundred people.
As a reminder, on July 22, the Verkhovna Rada voted for a bill that significantly limits the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) , effectively subordinating their activities to the Prosecutor General, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed it.
It is worth noting that society negatively perceived the actual destruction of anti-corruption bodies. On July 22 and 23, hundreds of people in many cities of Ukraine took to rallies against Law No. 12414 .
It was important to emphasize that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted to the Rada a bill on the restoration of the independence of the NABU and the SAPO .
