The former commander of a military unit is accused of overpaying for winter jackets and pants for military personnel in the amount of more than UAH 36.6 million.
This is reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
It is known that in 2022, a military unit in the Dnipropetrovsk region purchased winter uniforms for servicemen.
The contract called for the supply of 7,800 jackets and 7,795 pants. The total purchase price was UAH 67.7 million.
As noted, the former commander did not check whether the quality of the goods and their price corresponded to the real value.
Despite this, he signed the contract, prepayment documents, and invoices, after which the uniforms were accepted and paid for.
The investigation established that the winter clothing was purchased at a significantly inflated price.
The difference between the contractual and market value was over UAH 36.6 million.
The actions of the accused were qualified under Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – negligent attitude of a military official to the service, which caused serious consequences, committed under martial law.
At the request of the prosecutor during the pre-trial investigation, the court applied a preventive measure to the accused in the form of detention with the alternative of posting bail in the amount of 962,700 UAH. The accused did not agree with the chosen preventive measure and filed an appeal, which was partially satisfied. As a result, the amount of bail was reduced to 99,840 UAH, after which he posted it.
The Dnipro Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Field of Defense of the Eastern Region has sent an indictment to the court.
The former commander is charged with negligent attitude towards military service during martial law. He faces 5 to 8 years in prison.
