Former deputy of Sadovoy, who oversaw the construction of a waste processing plant, detained
Interpol has detained Gennady Vaskiv in Austria, a former deputy mayor of Lviv, who is accused of embezzling humanitarian aid.
This was reported by the publication Zaxid.net.
Vaskiv was detained in March 2026, and at the end of the month, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine sent a petition to the court for his extradition from Austria.
As noted, to prepare for extradition, the court assigned a German translator to the case.
Former board member of the Estonian public organization “Glory to Ukraine” and its liquidator Ilmar Raag said that the person involved was detained after his arrival from the United States to Austria.
“It is also interesting why Vaskiv returned from the USA? Allegedly, there was a SBI bait scheme behind this, according to which the Austrian promised Vaskiv some kind of job,” he noted.
The NGO is demanding compensation from Vaskiv in the amount of over 38 million hryvnias. They plan to transfer these funds to the needs of the Armed Forces.
It is worth adding separately that the project to build a waste processing plant in Lviv, around which a scandal recently broke out, was initially led by Vaskiv, as Lviv politician Volodymyr Hirniak wrote about in a blog for the publication “King Danylo”.
As is known, the contract for the waste processing plant with the Poles was later terminated, and the company “Control Process SA” went to international arbitration .
