Former military man threw a grenade at police officers: what happened next
On Thursday, February 19, at 10:50 p.m. in the city of Storozhynets, Chernivtsi region, a man threw a live grenade at a police car, next to which were two law enforcement officers, and fled the scene.
This was reported by the press service of the National Police.
Police officers were injured in the explosion. A 23-year-old police officer is in serious condition in hospital – doctors are fighting for his life. A 31-year-old police driver received minor injuries, but his life is not in danger.
It is noted that the attacker has already been identified and detained. In addition, during the search of his vehicle, other dangerous objects were found.
“During his detention, he resisted law enforcement officers with an explosive device in his hands and had several more rounds of ammunition with him,” the police said.
The attacker turned out to be a 48-year-old resident of Storozhynets, a former military serviceman. He was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The man’s residence was also searched. Police also seized weapons and ammunition. All physical evidence has been sent for expert examination.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted under Article 348 (encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer) and Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The issue of notifying the detainee of suspicion and choosing a preventive measure is being resolved.
As a reminder, at noon on February 9 , a grenade detonated in a car in the city of Shakhtarske, Dnipropetrovsk region.
As reported, in Kyiv, police officers detained a man who detonated a grenade in an apartment . As a result of the incident, one person died and two others were injured.
