Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced that he had donated the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, received from Ukraine, to the Museum of Remembrance of the Victims of the Volyn Tragedy in the city of Kholm.

He announced this on the X platform, RMF24 reports.

According to Morawiecki, this move was a gesture of protest. He received the order at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“Let this award become a symbol of memory for the tens of thousands of innocent Poles brutally murdered during the Volyn tragedy. Since the corrupt Ukrainian elite is incapable of doing this, I will do it for them,” the politician declared.

The former prime minister also called for a law banning state funding of organizations that, in his words, “glorify, glorify, approve of, support, or justify Ukrainian nationalists who killed Poles.”

He also called for stopping funding for foundations and public organizations that may be involved in such actions.

During a press conference, Polish Sejm member Michal Dworczyk, who accompanied Morawiecki, announced that he would also donate his state award, received from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to the museum.

At the same time, Dworczyk emphasized that he supports the development of Polish-Ukrainian cooperation, but, in his opinion, true reconciliation between the two peoples is only possible on the basis of historical truth.

As a reminder, Polish President Karol Nawrocki signed a decision to strip Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of the Order of the White Eagle in connection with the awarding of the honorary title “named after the Heroes of the UPA” to the Separate Special Operations Center “North” of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Subsequently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent the Polish President the Order of the White Eagle, which he had previously been awarded. This followed a scandal surrounding the naming of a Ukrainian unit after UPA heroes, which was perceived in Poland as a sign of disrespect.

In response, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha announced he would return the Commander’s Cross with Star of the Order of Merit for Poland. Meanwhile, the Head of the Presidential Office , Kyrylo Budanov, and the Deputy Head of the Office, Ihor Zhovkva, announced the return of Polish state awards. They made this decision after Polish President Karol Nawrocki stripped Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle.

At the same time, former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma and the third Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko refused the Order of the White Eagle , which they received from Poland.
