Former Prosecutor General of Georgia created a “volunteer” unit in Russia for the war against Ukraine

Former Prosecutor General of Georgia Otar Romanov-Partskhaladze announced the creation of a “volunteer” international unit “Georgievsky” in Russia, which will fight against Ukraine.

According to Romanov-Partskhaladze, he himself decided to join the war on the side of Russia. He plans to personally lead the newly created unit.
He explained that the name “Georgievsky” is associated with the Georgievsky Treaty of 1783, according to which the Kartli-Kakheti Kingdom passed under the protectorate of the Russian Empire.
Romanov-Partskhaladze served as Prosecutor General of Georgia for only about a month — from November to December 2013.
In 2023, the US imposed sanctions on him for his role in strengthening Russian influence in Georgia. The UK and Ukraine are also under sanctions. According to media reports, Romanov-Partskhaladze lives in Moscow, maintains ties with the Russian political elite and maintains contacts with representatives of the Georgian authorities.
