Former spokeswoman for the President of Ukraine Mendel reacted to Zelensky’s sanctions against her

Former press secretary of the Ukrainian president, Yulia Mendel, has reacted to the imposition of sanctions against her by Volodymyr Zelensky. She said that she links the decision to her public statements about ending the war and an interview with Tucker Carlson.

Mendel said the sanctions against her were imposed days before she was due to speak at the European Parliament. She was due to take part in an event organised by a representative of the German Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, which was dedicated to Russia’s war against Ukraine and the possibilities of ending it.
The event is scheduled for 16 September at 6pm in Strasbourg during the first plenary week of the European Parliament after the summer recess. Organizers said Mendel’s speech will be a central part of the program.
“Sanctions against Ukrainian citizens are unconstitutional, like many other decisions by Zelensky. Volodymyr Zelensky is using them against everyone who advocates for peace in Ukraine,” Mendel wrote.
She also stated that she expected possible sanctions to be imposed after her interview with Tucker Carlson.
“I knew that ‘treason’ was being prepared for my interview with Tucker Carlson and I suspected the possibility of sanctions. This does not change my position, nor the position of millions of Ukrainians. To survive, Ukraine needs peace, not another dictatorship, even if it is the dictatorship of Zelensky,” Mendel said.
On the eve, Volodymyr Zelensky signed 3 decrees, which put into effect the NSDC decision on new sanctions, in particular against former presidential press secretary Yulia Mendel. The restrictions also applied to vessels of the Russian shadow fleet, Rostec enterprises, and individuals whom Ukraine accuses of spreading Russian propaganda.
