Four Central Asian countries were left without electricity at once

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan simultaneously experienced large-scale power outages on August 14. The cause was attributed to a sharp change in the flow of electricity in the unified power system of Central Asia.

The energy departments of the four countries confirmed the outage and reported work to restore power supply.

Power outages were recorded, in particular, in Almaty and Bishkek. Dushanbe and Khujand were also left without electricity, and in Uzbekistan, outages occurred in the southern regions near the border with Tajikistan.

The power systems of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are interconnected, so a failure in one part of the network affected other countries in the region.

Central Asia regularly faces electricity shortages, as hydropower plays a significant role in the region.
