The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Norway and Sweden have agreed to allocate $500 million for the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine as part of the PURL initiative. The funding will be used to strengthen air defense and provide the Ukrainian army with ammunition.

This is reported by “European Truth” .

The funds from the allies will be used to purchase weapons that are identified as a priority for Ukraine’s defense needs. In particular, the funding includes the purchase of Patriot missiles, aviation ammunition for F-16 fighters, and artillery shells.

The Netherlands’ contribution to this initiative is around €90 million. The funding is provided through the international PURL program, which allows allies to quickly purchase the necessary weapons directly from the United States.

Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans stressed the importance of strengthening Ukraine’s air defense systems amid Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

“Russia continues to purposefully attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure precisely during the period of extreme cold, when the temperature drops to -20 degrees,” said Ruben Brekelmans.

He noted that such actions by Russia require an immediate response from allies.

“Such actions by the aggressor are a war crime that requires an immediate and strong response from the Western allies to protect the civilian population,” said Ruben Brekelmans.

In addition to ammunition, part of the funds will be used to purchase spare parts to maintain the combat capability of Western-style equipment already in service with the Ukrainian military. The PURL program provides for the possibility of quickly purchasing necessary equipment from the United States, which should ensure the prompt supply of resources to the Ukrainian army.

By the way, Great Britain announced the provision of additional multi-purpose missiles to Ukraine to strengthen Ukrainian air defense. We are talking about 1,000 units.

The day before, it became known that the United Kingdom will contribute to the PURL initiative by purchasing weapons for Ukraine from the United States.
