Four Al Jazeera journalists were killed in an Israeli airstrike near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. Among them was renowned correspondent Anas al-Sharif, who left a final message on the eve of his death. The Israeli army confirmed the strike and accused one of the dead of being affiliated with Hamas, which caused a sharp reaction in the media community.

This is reported by the BBC .

Four employees of the Qatari Al Jazeera television channel were killed in an Israeli airstrike near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. The victims include correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Kreike, as well as cameramen Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammed Nufal.

The tragedy occurred while the journalists were in a special press tent near the main entrance to the medical facility. Al Jazeera Editor-in-Chief Mohamed Moawad stressed that the deceased were not filming on the front lines, but were working in their labor camp. He emphasized that Anas al-Sharif had official accreditation and was one of the key sources of information for the international community on the situation in the Gaza Strip.

According to Moawad, this attack may be part of an attempt by the Israeli authorities to restrict the work of the media covering the events in Gaza. Before his death, Anas al-Sharif posted on social media a video with the sounds of explosions and a message that he called his will and last appeal. In it, the journalist suggested that he could become a victim of assassination by Israel and that his voice would be silenced.

The Israel Defense Forces officially confirmed the strike on al-Sharif, saying he allegedly led a Hamas terrorist cell. According to the Israeli military, the journalist concealed his true role and was involved in shelling Israeli civilians and soldiers.

This event has already caused a loud resonance in the international journalistic community, which is calling for an independent investigation and safety guarantees for reporters in conflict zones.

Earlier, about 100,000 people took to the streets of Tel Aviv to protest against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plans to establish control over the Gaza Strip.

Recall that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to achieve a complete occupation of the Gaza Strip and is already seeking government support for the implementation of such a plan. The military command, some ministers, and the intelligence services are against it.

It is worth adding that in early July, US President Donald Trump announced that Israel had agreed to the terms of a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza. According to him, US representatives had held “prolonged and constructive” talks with the Israeli side.
