After a massive Russian strike on November 19, three Ukrainian nuclear power plants – Yuzhnoukrainska, Khmelnytska, and Rivne – were forced to operate with reduced generation. The plants lost some of their connections to high-voltage power lines.

This was reported by the IAEA.

Rafael Grossi says that the Khmelnytskyi and Rivne nuclear power plants have been operating at reduced capacity for more than ten days after Russian attacks on key substations. On the night of November 7, both plants lost one of their two 750 kV lines. According to updated IAEA data, after the new attack, they reduced production even further due to the loss of additional high-voltage connections.

Instability was also recorded at the South Ukrainian NPP – it also lost contact with one of the high-voltage power lines.

Grossi stressed that the problems of the Ukrainian energy grid are not limited to the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP. According to him, hostilities continue to affect the entire system, and attacks on energy infrastructure put the stability of nuclear safety at risk.

It was previously reported that Kherson NPP is operating with a damaged turbine, and the power unit is producing 100 MW of electricity below its nominal capacity.

As a reminder, two Ukrainian nuclear power plants – Khmelnytskyi and Rivne – have been operating at reduced capacity for over ten days due to a Russian attack that damaged a substation important for their safety.
