The day before, on September 24, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) intercepted 4 Russian aircraft.
This was reported by the press service of the department.
It is noted that two Russian Tu-95 strategic bombers and two Su-35 fighters were in the Alaskan air defense identification zone.
To intercept them, the command scrambled an E-3 long-range radar detection aircraft, four F-16 fighters, and four KC-135 tanker aircraft.
NORAD noted that the Russian planes remained in international airspace and did not fly into the territory of the United States or Canada.
Such actions by Russian aviation have been observed repeatedly, however, they are not considered a direct threat.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command explained that an ADIZ is an area of international airspace that requires mandatory identification of all aircraft for national security purposes.
As a reminder, Estonia stated that three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets violated its airspace and were there for 12 minutes.
The Estonian Defense Ministry later reported that the incursion of Russian MiG-31 fighters into the country’s airspace was deliberate .
By the way, on Sunday, September 21, NATO scrambled two German fighter jets to intercept a Russian reconnaissance plane over the Baltic Sea.
