Co-founder of the NGO “Varta-1” and deputy of the Lviv City Council Ihor Zinkevich reported that during the massive attack by Russian troops on August 28 in Kyiv, the Bayraktar plant came under attack. Two hits to production facilities were recorded, which led to serious damage.
He wrote about this in Telegram .
“Despite the war and previous attacks, the company continued to invest tens of millions of its own funds, train personnel, and prepare production. Most of the facilities were almost ready, the main personnel had completed training,” he noted.
Zinkevich emphasized that this is the fourth strike on the plant in the last six months , which indicates Russia’s systematic attempts to disrupt the launch of the Ukrainian-Turkish project to assemble modern drones.
The Bayraktar plant in Kyiv region began construction in 2022 after the signing of a Ukrainian-Turkish agreement on cooperation in the defense industry. It became the first production site of Bayraktar outside Turkey.
The main goal is to assemble and maintain Bayraktar TB2 and its newer modification, Bayraktar Akıncı, as well as train Ukrainian specialists to work with this equipment. The plant’s capacity was designed for dozens of devices per year.
By the time of the attack, most of the production facilities were already ready, and the main personnel had been trained in Turkey and Ukraine. Once launched, the plant was to become a strategic facility for strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and developing its own aviation industry.
As a reminder, on the night of August 28 , Kyiv was subjected to one of the largest attacks in recent months . Russian troops simultaneously used strike drones, ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as hypersonic “Daggers”, which led to large-scale destruction in several areas of the city. In the morning, it became known about four deaths, including two children, and more than two dozen people were injured.
As reported later, the death toll in Kyiv as a result of a combined attack by Russian troops on the night of August 28 increased to 17 people.
At the same time, it became known that in Kyiv, the British Council building , as well as the office of the Kyiv bureau of Radio Liberty and the office of Ukrainska Pravda , were damaged due to a Russian missile attack on the night of August 28.
