Fractured ribs and lung damage: Russians killed former mayor of Dniprorudny in captivity

Yevgeny Matveyev, former mayor of Dniprorudne, located in the temporarily occupied part of Zaporizhia region, died as a result of injuries and damages received in Russian captivity.
This was reported by the publication LIGA.net, citing the response of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
“Death occurred from a closed blunt trauma to the torso with multiple rib fractures, damage to the lungs and pleura,” the UCP explained.
They added that the official died last year – on September 7, 2024, in detention center No. 3 in the city of Kizel in the Perm Territory.
Investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine are currently conducting a pre-trial investigation. No suspicions have been reported within the proceedings yet.
The website of the Dniprorudny City Council states that the body of Yevgeny Matveyev was returned during an exchange in 2024. He spent 2 years and 8 months in captivity.
“Even during the occupation, he remained in the city, together with its residents, ensuring the functioning of the community, informing about the situation, and supporting people in difficult times. The loss of such a person is an incredible pain, “ the city council emphasized.
