France opposes a “shortcut” for Ukraine to join the EU.

France does not approve of a simplified process for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. French President Emmanuel Macron proposed “symbolic accession of Ukraine to the EU.”

According to Minister Delegate for European Affairs Benjamin Addadi, there can be no “shortcut.” However, he emphasized that France fully supports the gradual “rapprochement between Ukraine and the EU.” He emphasized that Ukraine’s accession to the EU is a gradual and lengthy process that takes time.

“For Ukraine, as for Moldova and the Western Balkan countries, integration into the European Union is a long-term process requiring reforms, particularly in the areas of anti-corruption, rule of law, and judicial independence,” he commented. He also insisted that when it comes to EU values and legislation, there can be no exceptions. However, rapprochement between Ukraine and other EU countries is a geopolitical necessity.

In particular, he argues that Ukraine can move closer to EU countries, but have an intermediate status, and that deeper integration is necessary for this.

“To be a full member and have access to everything, we must tell the truth: there are no shortcuts. Countries must reform. And the Union itself must reform and become more flexible,” Addadi commented.

Previously , Pryamyi reported that Ukraine plans to join the EU as early as 2027. However, most European leaders believe such deadlines are unrealistic, as Ukraine needs large-scale reforms to achieve this. Furthermore, the process of expanding the bloc itself is quite complex.

Brussels also claims that joining the EU depends on many factors and cannot be a political concession.

It should be recalled that representatives of Poland, who supported the position of future Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar, also previously spoke out against Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the European Union.

European Commissioner Marta Kos previously expressed her opinion on this issue. She stated that, despite Ukraine being an important partner of the European Union, joining the bloc in 2027 is impossible.
