From Patriotic Masks to Mafia Methods: How Power Structures Turned Fraud into a Governing Model

A fraudster’s first currency is trust. To secure it, the scammer doesn’t just speak — they take control of the victim’s emotions. They disarm with humor, deliver information in unexpected ways, distort facts, manipulate perception, and lean on fabricated “personal experience.” Each tactic serves a single purpose: to guide the victim to the point where they willingly hand over their money or property without noticing the trap.

The fraudsters who came to power needed first to lure Ukrainians’ votes — and later their continued support — in order to steal hundreds of millions, if not billions. The real figures will surface eventually, and we should be prepared for a shock.

The image of Holoborodko, the fictional reinvention of “what’s the difference,” the staged patriotism, pathos, and megalomania, the construction of a personality cult around Zelenskyy as the sole savior, and the demolition of any independent thinking or opposition — all of it served as a screen for theft and corruption on an extraordinary scale. The criminal schemes were engineered by figures with clear Russian ties — the very ones who arranged the notorious “twosome to Moscow.” And we can only imagine how many more such journeys were quietly negotiated.

Therefore, the current power system shows all the signs of being not merely autocratic, but mafia-like. There are hierarchies, cliques, omertà, and ritual sacrifices designed to release pressure and preserve the life of the clan. For example, the current “sacrifice” of ministers Galushchenko and Grinchuk is meant to protect the entire mafia government. The Cabinet will not ultimately save it, but the attempt itself is characteristic.

All the announced replacements of supervisory boards, without altering the underlying principles of governance; the triumphant reports about 100 planes from France (which still have to be paid for — will the money come from Carlson’s bedside table?); and statements about the resumption of peace talks (to offer society yet another fleeting hope) — all of these are classic methods of emotional manipulation by scammers.

Therefore, for the country’s survival, systemic change is essential. The problem lies not in individual personalities but in the immediate restoration of the constitutional form of power, rather than the presidential one. The resignation of those implicated in corruption scandals — Yermak, his deputies, and the entire government — is necessary, but not enough. Without a return to European governance principles, new swindlers will fill the same roles within the existing mafia-like system.
