Free services and housing: what benefits does the state guarantee to Heroes of Ukraine?

Citizens of Ukraine who have been awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine are entitled to a number of social and household benefits in accordance with the legislation. Some of these guarantees also apply to their relatives.

After receiving the title of Hero of Ukraine, a person can take advantage of the benefits provided for by the law “On the Status of War Veterans, Guarantees of Their Social Protection.” This includes, in particular, the provision of communal and household needs.

Heroes of Ukraine have the right to priority improvement of housing conditions, as well as free major repairs of residential buildings and apartments.

In addition, persons awarded the Order of the Gold Star are exempt from paying for a number of services, including:

• rent;
• utilities – water supply, sewage, gas, electricity, hot water supply, central heating;
• liquefied bottled gas for domestic needs.

This category of citizens is also entitled to free installation of a home telephone and a non-departmental home security alarm system.

These benefits are aimed at ensuring social protection for persons who have received state awards for heroic deeds.
